What a busy last month it’s been. February 2012 was when I found out I’d won the ‘When Sally Met Sally’ writing competition for my novel, ‘Journey to the Other Side’. Part of the prize was that it was going to get published, and I spent the next year editing it and making sure it was up to scratch, as sometimes I had to wait quite a number of weeks to hear back and life gets in the way, as it always does.
For a number of different reasons I didn’t end up publishing through the competition which was something I’d been trying to decide since the start, but what it’s meant is that I have complete control over the process. Once I decided on a release date I had a lot of work to do to ensure the book was ready and wasn’t going to be an embarrassment for me. I had to decide on proof readers, approaching publishers, cover designers, typesetters… The list seems never-ending, as well as exciting seeing your creation come to life. Everything is now ready to go and I receive my first printed copies in 10 days! One of the things I’m happiest with is the cover which was designed by a friend of mine in the business, Anni. I had an idea of what I wanted but she’s worked wonders as i hope you’ll agree! I decided to write under the pename ‘Lizbian’ which a friend coined for me a few years ago. I’ve already written the second book in the series, most of the third and have started a story based during WWII in Guernsey which is more of a mainstream book (if there is such a thing)
I’m so excited by the whole process but now the hard work starts – MARKETING, the dreaded ‘M’ word! I’ll let you know how I get on, anyone with any hints feel free to send me a message, or if you want to know anything about the process/book please also drop me a line.
